Hands On: Spigen EZ FIT GLAS.tR saved my iPhone 13 Pro Max screen

Like many people, I take my iPhone with me pretty much everywhere I go. Occasionally, at times when it’s probably not a great idea like today when I had my iPhone in my pocket while I was unloading pool chemicals in a shed. There was a lot of bending and lifting and maneuvering around obstacles. In short, too many opportunities to get the phone out of my pocket. And sure enough, it did. And after being jolted in mid-air (an effort rendered useless by the fact that I had a bucket of football in one hand), it landed in plain sight on a rough concrete slab. A sharp edge protruding from the surface hit the phone right at the corner, with an audible crunch.

The name is a bit of an exaggeration, but the product is top notch. A box that I paid just $34.99 for contained two tempered glass screen protectors with an oleophobic coating for fingerprint resistance and a nano coating for dust protection.

A cleaning and application kit is also included, featuring a plastic bezel that makes aligning the screen protector virtually impossible.

In the nearly two years I’ve been wearing it, I’ve never noticed the screen protector. The glass is thin and extends almost to the edges of the iPhone display. I noticed no extra fingerprint smudges, no impact on touchscreen operation, and no negative impact on the sharpness or colors of the iPhone display. It fades into the background, which is what a good screen protector is all about Should Do.

I reviewed the product a few years ago, but there was one test I couldn’t do, and that was to deliberately drop my iPhone to see how well the screen protector did its job. Instead of having to make an appointment at an Apple Store and shell out hundreds of dollars, I spent about 30 seconds removing the cracked Spigen screen that came off in one sheet, with no sharp shards. Then another five minutes to get the package out of my desk drawer, clean my iPhone, and install the second screen protector that Spigen includes in the box.

It’s no exaggeration to say that it was probably the best $35 I’ve ever spent on an accessory.
